The Panel

The Attitude Panel is a new, regular discussion around the issues facing the disabled community.

Episode One

Watch here.

Last month the Government announced plans for a new Ministry for Disability, and following the announcement, streamed live on AttitudeLive.com we hosted a panel discussion that presented a few opinions of what this meant to many in the community. Of course, when many have been waiting for decades for such an announcement, half an hour is never going to be enough to go very deep into what this can and will do for the community.

So we've decided to start a regular panel where we will invite people from the disabled community to have a conversation about what's happening in the community. This first episode includes more voices and opinions on the Government's announcement.

Joining us on today's panel:

Colleen Brown - Chair of Disability Connect
Colleen has been a long time advocate for people with disabilities, especially the need to help people with intellectual disabilities fight for their rights. The families of those with disabilities have leant on Colleen through the years and her experiences raising a son with Down syndrome.

Annette Hansen - Deaf representative for Enabling Good Lives, Mid Central
Annette is NZSL tutor and a facilitator with Deaf Aotearoa. She has been working on behalf of the Deaf community to strengthen Enabling Good Lives in the Mid Central.

Peter Allen - Enabling Good Lives representative, Mid Central
Peter Allen works as a civilian logistics analyst for the NZ Army and has a degenerative eye condition. Far from stopping him from having a good life, Peter uses his experience to  share the principles of Enabling Good Lives. He's passionate about how the system will bring self-esteem and dignity to anyone with a disability.

Jonny Wilkinson - CEO Taiho Trust
Jonny has a unique combination of disability sector knowledge, business skills and first hand experience of disability issues. He has Cerebral Palsy, and lives in Whangarei where he has served the Disability community tirelessly.
